By The Waldron News
As part of the Great American Clean Up Spring Event, Mayor Neil Cherry issued a Proclamation declaring March as “Keep Arkansas Beautiful” month in the City of Waldron.
The Jim Sher Family and Friends will launch the month’s events with a litter pick up on Saturday, March 25th. Volunteers will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Waldron City Hall, 370 Featherston. Safety vests, gloves, bags, and other supplies will be provided. Call Jim Sher in advance at 479-207-0508 to sign up and you will receive a free T-Shirt!
A free electronics recycling will begin on Monday, March 27 with curbside pick up of your corded electronics. Just place your items out on your regular recycling pick up date and an additional run will be made to pick up the ewaste items. The free electronics recycling will continue the next week at the Waldron Transfer Station, 123 Poplar Street. You can bring you items by there anytime during this two-week period.
To assist with your clean up project, the City will pick up your bundled or bagged yard debris on Fridays. Just give us a call at City Hall at 637-3181 to be placed on the schedule. Our Transfer Station is open Monday through Friday from 7:45 until 4:15 and also the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 – 2:00. You may dispose of yard debris, white goods, household trash, and various other items at the Transfer Station at no cost. There is a charge for disposing of construction materials, carpet, shingles, and other items where the City incurs a cost for disposal.
If you have unsightly trash or abandoned cars in your yard, expect to receive a letter from the City requesting that these items be removed from your property. The City of Waldron is serious about getting our town cleaned-up of debris in our residential areas.
In addition, there are state and local laws declaring it unlawful for anyone to keep or maintain a building that constitutes a nuisance within the City of Waldron. Such property owners will be receiving a notice from the City and condemnation proceedings are initiated when this occurs.
“I’m anxious to begin our Spring Clean Up,” stated Mayor Cherry, “several areas of our City need to be addressed and I will be contacting local property owners and business owners who need to clean up their properties.”
