Spring sports in Waldron are now getting to the post season phases of year. The Bulldogs baseball team wrapped their season with an overall record of 4-12, while going 4-6 in conference, with wins against Mansfield, West Fork, and Cedarville. In the 3A Region 1 West division, the Bulldogs finished 6th overall, and will compete in the District Tournament this week. Waldron Baseball Coach, Mark Brigance, commented on the Bulldogs’ season saying, “I have enjoyed watching us get better each time we play.” Though their record won’t show this part, the Bulldogs lost five games this season by 1 run.

Waldron Lady Bulldogs softball traveled to Hackett on Tuesday, April 23, to take on the Lady Hornets in their final regular season game. The Lady Bulldogs hold an overall record of 12-7 going into the contest, and have won 8 of their ten conference games. Waldron Softball has wins over Acorn, Bradley, Mena, Danville, Lincoln, West Fork, Elkins, Greenland, Mansfield, and Cedarville. In their respective division, the Lady Bulldogs currently sit in 2nd place behind Charleston.

The Waldron Sr. High Track teams competed in the 3A Region 1 West District Meet at Mansfield on Monday, April 22nd. Last Wednesday, April 17, the Waldron Jr. teams wrapped up their season at the Jr. District Meet at Elkins. The Waldron Jr. Girls placed 3rd overall behind West Fork and Mansfield, as the Jr. Boys took home the gold claiming 1st place.

Waldron Track Coach, Nicholas Stovall, noted on Waldron’s season stating, “The season started off great in February, when we brought home the 3A Indoor State Championship.” Stovall continued, “Going into the outdoor season, we knew we had a few athletes that could pre-qualify for the State Outdoor meet in April, but due to some unfortunate weather and injuries we didn’t quit get all of the pre-qualifying  marks we were hoping for.”

Stovall mentioned that Monday’s District Meet could possibly be Waldron’s 3rd District Championship in as many years and should also allow the team to qualify more athletes for the State meet. Currently, Waldron’s freshman Gabino Grano has the best 3A 200 Meter Dash time.
