Paris man charged with two  counts of First-Degree murder

Johnathan Carroll Massey, 21 of Paris, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after a double homicide in South Sebastian County.

Massey has been charged with the murders of of Carroll Wayne Elmore and and Sharon Diane Bernard according to Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Shue.

According to Capt. Phillip Pevehouse with the Sebastain County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received by dipatch around 2:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 30) about a house on fire around the 3700 block of Clark’s Chapel Road, just south of Greenwood. 

When assistance arrived to th scene, the structure was fully engulfed and two bodies were located a few hundred yards outside of the home. 

A BOLO was released on a 2011 white Chevrolet Silverado pickup, which belonged to Elmore, who occupied the residence. Massey was located inside of the descfribed pickup in Booneville and according to a news release, Massey was wearing “bloody clothing.”

Massey was apprehended and transpoorted to the Sebastian Couunty Sheriff’s Office for questioning, then was escorted to the Sebastian County Detention Center.

In addition to the two counts of murder, Massey also faces charges of aggravated armed robbery, arson and theft of property.

The house valued more than $100,000 and the pickup truck was valued at $6,000.

Massey is currently being held in the Sebastian County jail without bond and is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday in the Sebastian Circuit Court.
