The Waldron City Council will meet Thursday, Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in City Council room of City Hall for the regularly scheduled Agenda Planning Meeting. The Council will also be conducting a work session in regard to a possible ‘privilege tax’ or business membership fee.

Discussion was previously opened by the council of the fee  due to regulatory purposes and improvement of public safety.

“No decision has been made about a proposed fee. The Council is simply discussing the possibility of creating a fee for current businesses as well as new businesses. There is nothing formal, the Council is weighing the advantages and disadvantages of a fee,” said Clerk/Treasurer Sherry Johnston.

According to Johnston,  it has not even been determined if it would be a flat or a tiered rate or to whom it would  affect - whether it would be based on activity or be a retail, wholesale, or online business. “The details of the fee would be processed further if the Council agrees to pursue fee. The Council is just in their initial discussion,” shared Johnston.

The Thursday evening work session is open to the public.
